Pre-test Discussion Check-list

When offering testing, health professionals should conduct a ‘pre-test discussion’. This is an important ethical requirement of screening but also helps to:

  • Secure informed choice

  • Improve acceptance of screening

  • Raise awareness

  • Improve knowledge

Information provided in pre-test discussions can also help to:

  • Prepare people for a positive test result

  • Reduce feelings of stigma, shame and fear

This short, practical checklist aims to support health professionals to have this discussion when offering screening.

The checklist is available in five languages.  Download by clicking on the flag of the language you want.
