The HEPscreen project received funding to work across six European countries: the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Hungary, Italy and Spain. In an epidemiological analysis, HEPscreen calculated the burden of chronic hepatitis B among the five most affected migrant groups in these six European countries. These estimates are shown in an interactive map below. A practical guide is also available to help others how to calculate the burden of chronic hepatitis B in a smaller geographical area or in a different country.
The analysis was limited to chronic hepatitis B due to a lack of data for hepatitis C prevalence at country level at the time of our study. The analysis is now being extended to include chronic hepatitis C in collaboration with the ECDC. Results are expected in 2015.
